In recent years, mental fatigue among workers is a serious problem, and there is concern that accumulation of such fatigue can impair health. Due to the growing interest in working environments that support workers' health and productivity, research has focused on improving environments of internal office spaces, but there has been insufficient discussion of external environments. This study focused on open spaces in business districts to clarify effects of open spaces on user's mental fatigue and to describe environmental characteristics of walking spaces that reduce mental fatigue. The results showed that walking in the open spaces by the office development reduced mental fatigue, unlike walking in the ordinary business district.
