We developed a method for prevention of vacant houses as a target by applying knowledge of attitude–behavior change research. Then we verified the results for a residential area in Okayama City as a target. Specifically, we distributed leaflets to owners of detached houses to inform them about benefits for prevention of vacant houses. We also administered a questionnaire survey of the considered future uses of houses. The study yielded the following findings.1) Based on this study approach, 10% of respondents reported behavior changes and 44% of respondents reported attitude changes.2) Contents of behavior changes were to write an ending note and a testament, to confirm registration, and to collect information about transfer such as inheritance.
