人間の脳は、生命の早期段階において、時間的および空間的に組織化された発達プロセスを経験する。その過程の中で、サブプレートニューロンが胎児期の大脳新皮質の構築や神経回路の形成において中心的な役割を果たしていることが、近年の研究により明らかになってきた。これらの過程は、神経発達症、てんかん、精神疾患といった多くの病態と密接に関連しており、その理解は医学における新たな地平を開く可能性を秘めている。本シンポジウムでは、人間および他の哺乳類の脳の初期発達に関わるサブプレート研究の最先端に立つ研究者たちが、その深遠な知見を分かち合う。この洞察を通じて、生命の初期段階における脳発達の神秘に対する理解を深めることが期待される。
