Gene therapy for hypomyelinating leukodystrophy using AAV with artificial miRNA

神経変性疾患や筋疾患、代謝疾患はその多くが希少疾患であり病態が未解明なため、病態に基づいた治療法の開発が喫緊の疾患が数多く存在します。一方で、脊髄性筋萎縮症のように遺伝学的病態に基づいた治療開発アプローチが急速に進んだ結果、症状進行を抑制し健常な社会生活を実現できるようになった疾患も登場してきました。治療開発は、核酸医薬、新規化合物による創薬、遺伝子導入、再生細胞医療といった多様で新たなモダリティーにより開発が進んでいます。このシンポジウムで取り上げる内容は近い将来、実用化されることが期待されるものです。個々の疾患患者数は少なく、実臨床で実際に出会う機会は決して多くはないかもしれませんが、現在進められている治療開発の知識をアップデートすることで早期診断および早期治療開始に繋がり、患者の予後を大きく改善する可能性を秘めています。本シンポジウムでは最先端の治療開発を牽引している5名の演者から、日進月歩で進化する難治性疾患に対する治療開発状況を伺い、本学術集会で知識と現状を共有します。さらにこのような治療開発研究に参入意欲のある人材を発掘し、ますます加速させる機会にしたいと考えます。
