Dynamics of mitochondrial genome and membrane in health and disease

Our understanding of basic mechanisms controlling the functions and structures of various organelles has advanced considerably, as evidenced by two Nobel Prizes that were handed out in 2013 and 2016 for remarkable contributions to organelle biology. This field is now moving to the next phase, and new discoveries are being made with respect to more detailed molecular mechanisms and physiological significance. In addition, newer findings are also being made against past concepts. In this symposium, we will introduce recent topics in this field, including autophagy, mitochondrial dynamics, and peroxisome biogenesis, and we will discuss the future directions of organelle biology.
