心理療法が目指すことー回想法や本人交流会などのグループセラピーを中心に

認知症患者にとって心理療法はいくつかの理由で重要である。まず認知症の行動心理症状の防止や軽減において有用である。しばしば不安や抑うつ、混乱などの症状を認めるが、心理療法はこれらを軽減する可能性がある。また症状のために日常生活に多くの制約が生じるが、心理療法は彼らの生活の質を向上させる可能性もある。ストレス管理やコミュニケーションスキルの向上などを通じて、より良い生活を送ることができる可能性がある。さらに認知症患者はしばしば孤立感や孤独感を感じるが、心理療法は社会的および感情的なサポートを提供し孤独感の軽減に有用である。そして、これらの効果は認知機能の低下を遅らせる可能性もある。一方、ケアラー（介護者）にとっても心理療法は重要でストレスや負担を軽減する可能性がある。
