Titania-supported iridium catalysts of excellent activities for the synthesis of alkylamines by the reactions between primary alcohols and aqueous ammonia solution or urea have been developed. For example, tribenzylamine was produced in 83% yield from 28% aqueous ammonia solution and benzyl alcohol in the presence of Ir (6 wt%)/JRC-TIO-10 catalyst (3.0 mol% as Ir) (2 h, bath temp. 140 deg.C). Effects of Ir loading levels and titania supports were systematically investigated.
