Through the screening of various metal oxides for hydrocarbon (HC) preferential oxidation in the presence of CO, Mn oxide was found to be promising. This study investigated the promoting effects of various metals to Mn-based oxides. The addition of Mg-promoted Mn oxide strongly enhanced the HC preferential oxidation activity with suppressing CO oxidation. We further investigated descriptors of the HC preferential oxidation activity of Mn-based oxides.
