Ti2O3 is a kind of suboxides that contains trivalent titanium in its crystal structure. We have established a method for the synthesis of suboxides from rutile TiO2 using TiH2 as a reducing agent. This method enables us to synthesize various kinds of hypervalent titanium oxides such as Ti2O3, Ti3O5 and Ti4O7 while retaining the particle morphology of TiO2. In this study, Ti2O3 was synthesized from various TiO2 precursors with different crystal structures and particle size states.
