Molybdenum suboxide combines oxygen defects as catalytic active sites and visible light absorption properties derived from surface plasmon resonance. We performed CO2 hydrogenation reaction at 200 °C and at 20 atm using Pt-supported molybdenum suboxide, which afforded CO, methanol, and methane as products. Furthermore, visible light irradiation onto the catalyst accelerated the production rates, mainly due to the local heating of the catalyst.
