Steam reforming of methane is one of the main technologies for producing hydrogen in the current chemical industry. The reaction is highly endothermic and needs more than 873 K to obtain a sufficient conversion due to the thermodynamic limit. We have successfully promoted the steam reforming reaction on supported nickel catalysts using renewable solar energy. In this study, we investigated the effect of temperature gradient in the catalysts bed on the performance in photothermal catalysis under concentrated visible and near-IR irradiation.
