We have developed a novel teaching aid for measuring the work functions of metals using the hollow-cathode lamp. We already succeeded in determining the work functions of Cs, K and Eu using the lamp without buffer gas. In this report, we will describe the experimental results on measuring the work function of Cs, K, Eu with a commercially-available lamp where Ne atoms are enclosed as buffer gas. We will check the reproducibility and versatility of our experimental scheme.
