　骨粗鬆症罹患者は世界で約2億人とされている．本邦でも超高齢社会の進展とともに骨粗鬆症患者が増加し，その罹患者数は現在1000万人を超えるとされている．骨粗鬆症に起因する骨折は健康寿命をストップさせ，寝たきりを招く重要な疾患であり，整形外科や内科で薬物療法や運動療法などを組み合わせて治療が行われている．骨粗鬆症の診断は，血液検査，DXA（dual energy X-ray absorptiometry）法や画像診断を組み合わせて行うが，これらの検査は少なくとも人間ドック以上の精密検診，あるいは医療機関の受診によって行われるものであり，各地域で通常行われている健康診断では行われていないため，特に顕著な症状がないことと相俟って検査受診率が低止まりしているのが現状である．<br>　一方で歯科医療の現場では，被曝量も低く容易に実施可能なX線撮影を非常にしばしば行う．もしこの歯科X線撮影を通して骨粗鬆症を診断することができれば，低い検査受診率の向上に役立ち，健康寿命の延伸に資すると考えられる．<br>　本セッションでは，歯槽骨減少症/硬化症および骨粗鬆症のスクリーニングについて，パノラマX線写真を用いた方法について松本歯科大学・田口明先生から，デンタルX線写真を用いた方法について兵庫県姫路市開業・高石佳和先生から最新の知見をご報告頂き，歯科における簡便な歯槽骨減少症/硬化症や全身の骨粗鬆症診断の未来および骨粗鬆症における医科歯科連携の可能性について議論したいと思う．
