[1Ca05]Study of electronic anisotropy and inhomogeneity by x-ray absorption and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy using micro-focused beams

*Masafumi Horio1(1. Institute for Solid State Physics)
In performing x-ray spectroscopy measurements such as x-ray absorption and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), the rotation of sample angles is often desired to change the angle of x-ray linear polarization and photoemission with respect to crystalline axes. However, since the x-ray spot inevitably moves on the sample during rotation, it has been challenging to apply these techniques to micro-sized or inhomogeneous samples. To overcome this issue, we developed a means to rotate linear polarization to an arbitrary angle using a segmented cross undulator at SPring-8 BL07LSU. As for ARPES, recent developments of commercial electron analyzer enabled the electronic scan of photoemission angles without sample-angle rotation. We present demonstrative studies of electronic anisotropy and inhomogeneity that have been enabled by this technical progress.
