Non coding transcription regulates stability and copy number of the ribosomal RNA gene

Noncoding DNA (ncDNA) regions occupy ~98% of human genome though most of them is still “unknown”. New technologies of DNA sequence analysis and genome editing start revealing the function of ncDNA. As ncDNA is more flexible and variable than coding DNA, it could contribute to evolution. Repetitive sequences increase the copy number and affect transcription. Variation in sequences for chromosome structure and maintenance changes the rate of mutation. Is there any principle of this ncDNA dynamics? In the symposium, we will discuss how we should deal with this huge mysterious region, ncDNA.
