Drug Discovery for Genetic Diseases Caused by Aberrant mRNA Splicing

Recent advances in sequence technology have revolutionized RNA research. Expression and/or splicing studies by RNA-Seq have become standard techniques, and cutting-edge technologies have enabled rapid study of RNA-protein interactions, prediction of secondary structures, investigation of translational activity and RNA modifications, and hyper-scalable analyses of barcoding samples. Chemical biology is one of the research fields that have been benefited from these new technologies. Many of the small molecules inhibit basic RNA processes including transcription, splicing, and translation, and RNA-related technology revealed detailed molecular mechanism of the small molecules. On the other hand, noncoding RNAs are attracting great attention as targets of new drug discovery. At this symposium, we would discuss emerging potentials created by collaboration between RNA and chemical biology.
