Genetic dissection of epithelial wound repair and remodeling via cell-cell communication

Developing animal tissues are reproducibly formed in the same shape even in the presence of internal fluctuations and external perturbations (developmental robustness). Adult tissues also maintain a stable morphology while replacing old or damaged cells with new healthy cells (tissue homeostasis), but its dysregulation is involved in various diseases. In this symposium, we’d like to focus common ground between “developmental robustness” and “tissue homeostasis” and regard it as “Morphostasis”. Recent imaging and mathematical analyses and synthetic biology study are gradually revealing that the physical/chemical communications between cells and tissues underlies “Morphostasis”. Here we introduce newest understanding of “Morphostasis” and discuss about their common systems and roles in robust development and disease prevention.
