Hematophagous arthropods, including mosquitoes and ticks, are well-known as vectors for various pathogens; they also have unique biological characteristics not observed in mammals. Recent studies have suggested the existence of numerous microorganisms that maintain their infections within the arthropod populations. In this symposium, we discuss the arthropod vectors, the microbes, and their interactions from a biological aspect, not only a pathogenic one.<br>
