てんかんはcommon diseaseであり正確に診断がなされ、適切な治療が行われることでおよそ7割の方で発作が抑制される。てんかん診療においては、てんかんの背景疾患（病因）や併存症がより臨床的に重要な意味をもつ場合も多い。本シンポジウムではてんかんのある方においてみられる併存症の診断と治療、および鑑別についてエキスパートの先生に最新の知見を踏まえて、概説いただく。
