Unveiling Thermal Signaling in Muscles with Photothermal Conversion Microscopy

Co-hosted by: The Biophysical Society of Japan

Historically, novel technologies have greatly enhanced our understanding of muscle physiology by elucidating the structure and function of muscle. Recently, significant advances have been made in the development of novel experimental systems as well as analysis methods utilizing high-precision live imaging, materials science and computer science. These innovative technologies allow us not only to deepen our understanding of the fundamental molecular mechanisms of muscle contraction but also to promote 1) timely identification of a disease or condition at its very early states, and 2) the development of novel treatment methods, especially for heart diseases. To envision the future of our specific research area, this symposium brings together highly regarded expert scientists across Japan who conduct pioneering muscle physiology research by employing various innovate technologies.
