Sylvia Aruffo, PhDCEO/Chair, Communication Science, Inc.
Dr. Aruffo studied anthropology at the University of Michigan. She combined an MBA and PhD using the field techniques of anthropology to discover the patients’ point of view. At Baxter Healthcare, she established a division for patients at home after hospital discharge. Her own company, in business for 26 years, expanded research to other health organizations. She has investigated patient-provider misunderstandings for medical providers, insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies, including Bayer, Pfizer and Kaiser Permanente, finding solutions to readmissions, non-compliance, clinical trial recruitment and resistance to self-care. Her company promises “Patient Education from the Patients’ Point of View.”
