The study measured the liquid-vapor behaviors near a heating surface using a conductance probe in saturated and subcooled pool boiling of water on the vertical surface at 0 to 30K subcooling, and specified the thicknesses of the macrolayer formed beneath vapor masses. Using the results, the CHF was predicted based on the macrolayer dryout model.
