We found that a reaction between a bis(2-pyrrolidone) derivative having adamantane cross-linking moiety (L) and tetravalent actinide (An(IV)) in HNO3(aq) results in a sparingly soluble salt, (HL)2[An(NO3)6]. In its crystal structure, L forms a hydrogen-bonded dimeric dication with 2 H+, (HL)22+, as an isolated counter cation for [An(NO3)6]2−. This point is critically different from those of other bis(2-pyrrolidone) derivatives reported previously, where hydrogen bond polymers are formed instead.
