To evaluate radiocesium uptake by fish in seawater and freshwater, a rearing experiment under different salinity conditions (0.1 psu: freshwater, 4 psu: brackish water, 32 psu: seawater) with controlled radiocaesium concentrations of food was conducted for the starry flounder, an euryhaline fish. Results revealed that radiocesium uptake of fish was faster in freshwater and brackish water with hypo-osmolality conditions than that in seawater.
