Analysis of fuel debris samples retrieved from the pedestal region of Fukushima Daiichi NPS (1F) Unit 2 is important for understanding fuel debris characteristics and accident progression. In this study, a fuel debris sample from the second trial retrieval was completely dissolved by sodium peroxide alkaline fusion, and the resulting solution was analyzed via ICP-AES for elemental composition and via alpha- and gamma-ray spectrometry for radionuclide composition. The result was compared with that obtained from the first trial retrieval sample to clarify similarities and differences in bulk elemental and radionuclide compositions. This work aims to provide basic data for evaluating the heterogeneity of fuel debris in the pedestal region and for integrated characterization together with solid-state analytical results.
