Previously, design options for waste disposal facilities have primarily focused on migration retardation functions. However, to design an optimally comprehensive facility, optimizing the leakage prevention function is equally crucial. Therefore, evaluating and comparing multiple design proposals for near-surface pit-type facilities regarding their leakage prevention capabilities is essential to identify superior configurations. This study examines identifies areas for potential improvement over conventional designs, and facility design options compliant with the latest regulatory requirements.
