To evaluate the applicability of simulated moving bed (SMB) extraction chromatography, which is expected to improve separation performance and reduce waste generation compared with fixed-bed extraction chromatography, to the separation process of minor actinides (MA), a new evaluation methodology was developed that combines separation simulation with mathematical optimization.
Using this method, separation conditions required to achieve the desired separation performance were investigated, and it was confirmed that SMB is effective for MA separation.
