Liquid waste generated by research institutions that contains uranium is often present in the form of strongly coordinated complexes, and its composition is highly complex due to the coexistence of both inorganic constituents and organic compounds. For such waste solutions, conventional adsorption and solvent extraction methods have difficulty achieving effective separation because of complex formation, and thus the development of more efficient and selective treatment technologies is required. In this study, we focused on electrodialysis using ion-exchange membranes and fabricated a prototype electrodialysis apparatus to evaluate its applicability.
