In order to ensure flexibility in the design of geological disposal in response to the diversity of the geological environment, NUMO is preparing designs that include a reference design and multiple alternatives as options and considering an approach to optimise the repository design in accordance with site-specific conditions. In this presentation, we outline the basic concepts and methodological framework for the development of design options and the design optimisation.
