紅色光合成細菌の光捕集タンパク質LH2をターゲットとし、タンパク質内励起エネルギー移動におけるエネルギードナーとアクセプターの機能的関係性を制御するために、エネルギードナー色素であるB800バクテリオクロロフィル（BChl）aを、色素再構成法または直接的な分子構造変換によって改変した。得られた改変LH2タンパク質の励起エネルギー移動ダイナミクスをフェムト秒過渡吸収分光によって解析した。
