ケージド化合物は光照射によって生理活性物質を放出させることができるが、その多くは組織透過性の低いUV光の照射が必要である。そこで、本研究では可視光を吸収する非対称シアニン色素に着目し、可視光応答型ケージド化合物の開発を目的とした。これらのケージド化合物は緑色光の照射によって目的とする化合物を効率よく放出することが分かり、神経伝達物質の放出に伴うイオンチャネル機能の可視光制御ができることを示した。
