Oligomerization of Amyloid-beta 42 peptide (Aβ42) is the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease. Recently, a variant of Aβ42 (mutation E22P) has been described and differentiated with the wild-type Aβ42 (E22). A bio-probe that selectively recognizes these variants of Aβ42 holds great promise for AD diagnosis and therapy. This research is focused on identifying novel DNA aptamer molecules as modern affinity reagents that can selectively and specifically identify the variants of Aβ42. We successfully identified a DNA aptamer using SELCOS that selectively recognizes only the E22-type AB42.
