[uRAGwoU2-05]The Role of General Authority of Maritme Science Researches and Aquatic life in Yemen in Research Development, promoting the blue Economy and Protecting Marine Environment by using GIS
*Mohammed Humran1 (1. TUOAA-GAMASR (Yemen))
The Red Sea and Indian Ocean have become a key geostrategic arena marked by military competition and escalating maritime security threats, which increasingly endanger the marine environment through pollution and ecosystem degradation. This study applies an integrated scientific management framework supported by artificial intelligence, geographic information systems (GIS), and advanced geospatial technologies to analyze the physical and human geographical characteristics of the region. Conducted under the General Authority for Marine Sciences and Aquatic Research, the research aims to support the Yemeni General Secretariat of the Aden and Arab Seas (YGSSA) in developing a cohesive national maritime policy and modern strategic vision. A mixed geographical methodology is employed, integrating GIS and remote sensing, marine geopolitics, regional geography, and marine spatial planning. These tools enable the collection, analysis, and management of advanced spatial databases. The study draws on applied experiences from the European Union, the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and collaborative data-sharing frameworks involving TUOAA, YGS, and AGS. The research is structured across three analytical levels: first, the role of GIS in strategic data management; second, the significance of regional and international maritime partnerships, including Arab-Chinese cooperation; and third, the analysis of maritime conflicts and challenges. The anticipated outcomes include the unification of Yemen’s maritime policy, the formulation of a modern maritime strategy, and the advancement of regional marine spatial planning. These efforts aim to strengthen maritime security, enhance regional cooperation, and promote sustainable marine development across the Red Sea and Indian Ocean
