NorDITO is developing a national framework for a Norwegian Digital Twin of the Ocean by connecting heterogeneous ocean observations, Earth observation, operational models, analytical services and digital infrastructures through interoperable interfaces and reusable components. The initiative addresses the challenge of moving from distributed data and modelling capabilities towards a more integrated system-of-systems that can support operational and decision-oriented marine applications. Particular emphasis is placed on standards-based interoperability, metadata and semantics, APIs, reusable computational workflows and portability across infrastructures. NorDITO also explores how national capabilities can connect with the wider European Digital Twin of the Ocean ecosystem, including EDITO and related digital-twin initiatives, while retaining the flexibility needed for national and regional applications. The presentation will outline the emerging architecture, key technical building blocks and priority use cases, and discuss how Norway’s strong ocean-observing and modelling capabilities can contribute to a scalable and federated DTO ecosystem.
