Welcome address

On behalf of the executive committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to Going Green EcoDesign2023 ― the 13th International Symposium on Environmentally Conscious Design and Inverse Manufacturing.

Since the first EcoDesign symposium that was held in Tokyo, Japan in 1999, the symposium has been promoting research on environmentally conscious design of products, services, manufacturing systems, supply chain, consumption, and society. Although the previous symposium could not help being held online because of the pandemic of COVID-19, EcoDesign2023 again will provide an on-site excellent platform to share the state-of-the-art research and practices in EcoDesign and to expand the network among professionals from industry, academia, research laboratories, consulting, and government.

During the event, the total of 200 papers will be presented, while the speakers are from 23 countries and regions. A variety of topics will be discussed in the symposium, which include the topics of circular economy, circular manufacturing, sustainable consumption, life cycle sustainability assessment, and sustainable product design. Of the 200 papers, 73 papers will be published in the E-book published by Springer. The papers included in the E-book were peer-reviewed and accepted based on the review result.

Nara is known as the oldest place in Japan and was once home to the Heijo-kyo, which served as the capital of Japan. We hope that, in addition to attending the technical program, you will find time to explore and enjoy the place.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all the sponsors, keynote speakers, authors, reviewers, session organizers, session chairs, and all participants for contributing to the success of EcoDesign2023. We are also grateful to the committee members of EcoDesign2023 and our organizing team members for making this valuable event possible.
