The Hawaii Ocean Time-series (HOT) program has provided near-monthly data detailing changes in biogeochemical stocks and rate processes in the eastern portion of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre (NPSG) since October 1988. We have recorded long-term changes in primary productivity, water column temperature and salinity, phytoplankton pigments as well as decadal oscillations in biological, chemical and physical properties of the water column. These data can serve as a proving ground for coupled ecosystem models and for understanding the impact of a changing climate on ocean physics and biogeochemistry. The time-series has also served as a hub of Bio-ARGO float deployments as well as a site for validation and calibration of the next generation of ocean color sensors. In this talk, I will present some observations of significant biochemical change as well as ecosystem resiliency with a focus on how partnerships such as AIMEC can leverage this rich and growing dataset.
