This research aims to address a challenge in the widespread adoption of biofoundries: the lack of standards and metrics in data, workflow, ontologies, and regulatory considerations. To this end, we will leverage the expertise and accomplishments of seven biofoundries from five participating countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland, Korea, and Japan, to establish a Global Center for Biofoundry Applications (GCBA) that focuses on the development of standards and metrics to make biofoundries reliable and scalable. As part of the education and workforce development at the GCBA, an international researcher exchange program will be established to foster young researchers, build strong networks, and promote brain circulation. Through this research, we will accelerate the rapid growth and wide adoption of biofoundries to achieve advanced biomanufacturing and global bioeconomy.
