Food and Energy Estate is an Indonesian National Strategic Program. Food and energy estate is a food and energy development concept integrated in large-scale plantation area (at least 25 hectares) with a variety of plants, including from the side of the plantation, agriculture, to animal husbandry and energy resources. As the crops are processed, waste fractions (waste water, solid residues, oils, etc.) are generated in large amounts (almost 90% from the plant). In implementing this national program, waste management technology should also become a fundamental and critical challenge to achieving sustainable agriculture, food security, and energy security. The agro-industry sector is responsible for about 18% of the total emission of greenhouse gasses contributing to global warming. Integral waste utilization is necessary for sustainable agricultural management, by suggesting a concept of bio-circular economy to exploit renewable resources. During 5 years under Japanese Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) project from 2024 to 2028, this research aims to make effective use of the agricultural waste fractions and convert them into biodiesel with lipase enzyme, bioplastic and polysaccharides with lignocellulolytic enzymes through the power of microorganisms. Our goals is to the creation of a new chemical industries linked to agriculture.
