In this work, we seek an in-depth understanding of the principles behind the formation of 2D metals at the atomic scale. Samples of Sn, Ag and Cu were encapsulated in graphene heterostructures inside the ultra-high vacuum system and studied via means of scanning transmission electron microscopy.
