We report a giant isotope effect in the silicon T centre. Replacing protium with deuterium in the T centre strongly suppresses non-radiative decay, increasing the excited-state lifetime and yielding near-unity quantum efficiency. These results establish the deuterium T centre as a promising spin–photon interface for silicon quantum technologies.
