We report key elements for compact mid-infrared spectroscopy based on broadband single-facet semiconductor ring lasers and two complementary optical interaction geometries. GaAs free-standing waveguides and 3D-printed parabolic micro-mirrors provide routes to substantial optical path lengths within a small system footprint.
