The dome is more than an immersive screen; it is a social space, a circle of humanity where communities gather under one sky to reflect on our shared future. By connecting culture, science, nocturnal biodiversity, and collective responsibility, immersive storytelling can become a powerful tool for ecological and social engagement. Protecting the starry sky, understanding the living world, and reconnecting with place and climate are not only scientific goals—they are cultural missions for the planetarium experience.
This presentation will be delivered by multi-award-winning immersive filmmaker Sébastien Gauthier, who will share his creative approach and vision for socially and environmentally meaningful dome storytelling.
The talk will draw on practical experience from three recent productions:
- One Sky, which brings together Indigenous voices and worldviews through a shared sky;
- Worlds of Ice (NFB), a journey from distant icy worlds to Earth’s fragile glaciers—a poetic call to recognize the importance and vulnerability of the cold in a warming world;
-Alpes Azur Mercantour, which explores the link between protecting the night sky and preserving nocturnal biodiversity, revealing fireflies, bats, pollinators, and other creatures of the night.
Through these works, we will explore how fulldome cinema can create wonder, inspire connection, and encourage collective action for a shared future on our living planet—under one sky.10 minutes - 30 minutes
