Amateur Astronomer magazine, founded in 1958 and jointly published by the Chinese Astronomical Society and the Beijing Planetarium, is the earliest popular astronomy periodical still in circulation. In China, many people have embarked on their initial journey of astronomical knowledge through this magazine, gradually developing an interest in astronomy and observation—some even going on to pursue professional astronomical research.
Since 2005, We magazine has been organizing the "Star Party," bringing together enthusiasts from across China to exchange knowledge on astronomy, equipment usage, and observation experience. Since then, the Star Party has been held almost annually, attracting hundreds of participants each year. In 2025, We launched the "Amateur Astronomer Summit," a more focused offline event that gathered astronomers, astrophotographers, astronomy outreach specialists, and representatives from astronomical equipment manufacturers. This unique gathering provided a platform for sharing and collaboration, creating a distinctive astronomical exchange.
Looking ahead, Amateur Astronomer aims to make future events even more diverse in content, broader in participation, and richer in interactive experiences. Together with astronomy enthusiasts from China and around the world, the magazine is committed to offering more and even more spectacular gatherings in the years to come.
Yu LU, who is the President of Amateur Astronomer magazine, will share in his presentation the outcomes, evolution, and reflections on the activities organized by the publication. The presentation will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
