[PD8-01]Seeing the Real Sky: How Planetariums Can Engage with Observational Astronomy

- Aim/Objectives

This session explores how planetariums—powerful tools for visual education—can engage with real sky observational experiences. While planetariums simulate the cosmos indoors, actual stargazing can offer irreplaceable emotional, educational, and cultural value. We will discuss how observational experiences can enhance astronomy education, support community engagement, improve scientific literacy, and promote well-being.
Crucially, this session invites both planetarium professionals and those involved in observational astronomy to engage in dialogue. Topics will include remote observation, live collaborations, the museum-oriented role of astronomy facilities, and real-world applications of astronomical research. Together, we aim to reimagine the evolving relationship between simulated and real-sky experiences.
