The logo of a historic institution such as the Jena Planetarium must do justice to its heritage while conveying a forward-looking vision. This paper presents a case study of the recent redesign and describes in detail the process of creating a new logo that bridges the planetarium's 100-year history and its future as a leading digital fulldome theater. The paper outlines a multi-stage workflow, beginning with the fundamental discovery phase: stakeholder interviews, review of core institutional values, orientation toward other logos, target audience analysis, and continuous refinement of specifications, before moving on to the conception phase: which shows how astronomical themes, educational goals, entertainment themes, and community engagement were translated into initial visual concepts and sketches. The paper will then delve deeper into the design and development phase, including important decisions regarding color theory, typography, and scalability for different media. Finally, the paper discusses the feedback and refinement process and shows how community testing and internal reviews shaped the final design. Readers gain practical insights into a strategic design process that ensures a planetarium's logo successfully connects with its audience and effectively communicates its unique identity in the universe of science communication.
