Getting a sense of relative sizes and distances in the universe can be challenging. This kinesthetic activity allows students to create scale models of stars, nebulae, and clusters. Starting at our Solar System, they then embark on a journey to the center of the Milky Way, pacing out the distance to each object, and sharing its scaled size, along the way. Participants discover not only how vast our galaxy is, but also realize that astronomical objects come in a wide range of sizes. While designed for use in a classroom setting, this activity can be modified for use during public engagement events or as a permanent exhibit. This poster will be presented by Robin Byrne.
