After World War II, the production of planetariums began in Japan. One notable example is the 'Kaneko-type planetarium', a pinhole projector invented by Isao Kaneko (1918-2009) and first completed in 1950. Many Kaneko-type planetariums were made and installed at expositions, department stores and educational facilities throughout Japan. Models designed for schools were also produced, with hundreds manufactured. These were exported both within Japan and overseas.
In addition, it has constantly striven to include highly innovative features. For example, it devised methods for recorded narration and automated control at an extremely early stage (early 1960s). He and his wife made commentary scripts and slides on constellation myths, which he provided to facilities along with his projectors to support their activities. The Kaneko-type planetarium played a significant role in popularising planetariums in Japan.
Until now, the Kaneko-type planetarium has not received widespread attention, and many details have remained unknown. Through research into the materials, the details have become clear. This section introduces the various models of the Kaneko-type planetarium and its role in the history of Japanese planetariums.
