In Japan, planetariums are operated both as independent facilities and as departments within museums or science centers. The status of planetarium explainers is diverse: some are museum curators, while others are employees of private companies. The author belongs to the Planetarium Section of TOKYU COMMUNITY CORP., whose main business is building management but also operates various facility-based enterprises. Our company manages 10+ planetariums with approximately 100 explainers in total. Through systems for emergency staffing, training, and knowledge sharing, we aim to vitalize planetarium activities. Moreover, explainer staff collaborate closely with our building management teams to enhance facility value and increase public use.
