Session Description: This session explores the expanding frontier of native fulldome live-action filmmaking for planetariums and immersive dome theaters. Advances in camera systems and display technologies now allow producers and directors to create live-action documentaries purpose-built for the dome experience—works that fully exploit the unique visual and spatial qualities of the format. The emergence of Direct View LED dome displays further extends these possibilities, while introducing new creative and technical challenges. Two highly accomplished directors specializing in live-action capture for fulldome will share their insights and showcase examples of their work: Sébastien Gauthier of Sébastien Gauthier 360 Studio and Robin Sip of Mirage3D. Through their case studies, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of best practices, workflows, and lessons learned in producing cinematic live-action experiences for the dome.Session producer Paul Fraser of Blaze Cineworks will moderate a panel discussion with the presenters. He will open with highlights from his recent one-on-one interviews with planetarium directors, revealing current perspectives on audience demand and programming interest in live-action content for fulldome theaters. The session will conclude with an interactive Q&A segment, inviting questions and discussion from the audience.
Session Length: 60 minutes.
