Over the past few decades, the number of published research papers addressing astronomy education, planetarium education, and related topics has dramatically increased. But as planetarium educators, how do we make sense of the research literature and use it in our planetarium programming? The aim of this workshop is to provide a space for attendees to (a) learn strategies to make sense of published research and (b) discuss with others in the community ways to implement new ideas from the literature into professional planetarium work. We will draw from literature identified by the IPS Education Committee that is freely available to anyone and appropriate to planetarium education. During the workshop, we will focus on an exemplar paper that will be shared with participants on site. The moderators will lead participants in analyzing selected sections of the paper to make sense of the research findings and suggest ways of applying this to our practice.
